Our 2024-25 Season will be William Boughton’s final year as Director of the YSO. This season is a culmination of his six years with the orchestra, with a program that reflects the priorities he has focused the orchestra on; Music of the Western and American canon, and new American music. Featuring the Wynton Marsalis Violin Concerto with Tai Murray, and embarking on a Spring Tour ’25 to North Macedonia and Greece,
The Yale Sympony Orchestra (YSO) upcoming Season starts on Sunday September 29th at 3pm with a performance of Wynton Marsalis’ beautiful Violin Concerto featuring soloist Tai Murray and Shostakovich’s Symphony No 5.
Strauss Don Juan, Mozart Sinfonia Concertante with William Waite Concerto winners Tobias Liu (Violin) and Erin Nishi (Viola), and Bernard Rands Symphonic Fantasia will be performed on Saturday November 16th at 7:30pm.
A program featuring the Yale Glee Club of American music by Copland, Stravinsky, Ellngton, Korngold and Theofanidis on Sunday February 16th at 3pm
And the night before our Spring Break Tour to North Macedonia and Greece on March 7th at 7:30pm will be an all Brahms Program featuring Robert Blocker in the 1st Piano Concerto followed by the 4th Symphony.
The final program of the year and Music Director William Boughton’s Final Concert with the Ochestra will feature Henry Shapard (Class ‘19) in a performance of Elgar’s sublime Cello Concerto followed by the transcendental musical realization of each Planet in Gustav Holst’s monumental Planet’s Suite. The Season will also feature Carlos Simon’s amazingly vibrant Four Black American Dances conducted by the YSO Assistant Conductor Nicole Lam.
